Coronavirus & Your Counter Top: Disinfecting Tips

Updated: Dec 8, 2022

If there’s one thing that the coronavirus pandemic has taught us, it’s to demonstrate good personal hygiene and thorough handwashing.

But what about when you’re at home?

With most of us choosing to stay at home and practice social distancing, you might be wondering how to apply these best practices at home.

Keeping your house clean and sanitized is a great to practice regularly, but during these unprecedented times, it may be essential!

But before we get started on our tips, here’s one myth that must be acknowledged – you CANNOT contract coronavirus by staying at home.

This virus can only be contracted on objects that may already have traces on its surface.

So long as you and your family practices social distancing measures, good hand-washing habits and avoid touching your face, you can prevent the spread of COVID-19 in your home.

The best way to practice good household hygiene is by regularly cleaning and disinfecting areas that you and your family use often.

This might include your kitchen or bathroom counter tops!

When it comes to stone counter tops, some care and attention must be made on using the right cleaning agents. Using abrasive materials on porous surfaces might damage your counter top!

Solid counter tops like granite can be cleaned with your common household disinfectant. We also share some great tips on cleaning hard surfaces like quartz in our previous blog post.

Marble on the other hand, requires some care and attention. It’s best to refrain from using abrasive product because it is soft and porous. Rely on the manufacturers’ recommendations to avoid damage or staining instead!

It’s always good practice to spray and leave the cleaning agent on the surface for a few minutes. This ensures that all germs and viruses are removed from the surface.

Are you short on disinfectants or cleaning products (did we mention how much we dislike panic buying)?

Just like with handwashing, all it takes is a little elbow grease, warm water and soap!

We are living in truly unprecedented times. But keeping yourself protected, safe and healthy can come from easy and simple solutions.
